I am known for introducing myself as the “not-so-typical HR Lady” because I take an ‘un-stuffy’ approach to HR. I am creative and collaborative, disguising my intense results-driven work ethic with a smile and appropriately-placed humor. I believe that cooperation is far better than competition, so teamwork from all departments is essential to meeting the goals of the organization. I believe that HR should be practical and simple; in other words, the solutions should make sense and be easy to explain – what’s vital now and what’s the big picture? Also important, how can we include everyone, encouraging everyone to use their talents to contribute? Are we considering diverse points of view? These are the types of things I’ve learned in my 20 years of hands-on HR experience, and that’s what I bring to my writing.
On the writing side, I may be biased, but I love my writing style! I’ve been writing for a very long time – from short stories and poetry to newspaper articles and editorials, magazine articles, and company course workbooks as well as handbooks and policies. I never get tired of writing and can always be found with a notebook in my bag or on my person somewhere. I’m a storyteller, and I think stories help make facts relatable and should be used to ‘edutain’. As a writer / blogger, I use stories to teach life lessons, and as a content creator, I use stories to inspire, motivate, and sell. I speak in both professional-educational tone and relatable-entertainment tone; I think both are important for specific types of media. The tone of your message is part of your branding, and should also reflect your company culture.
I also write an excellent instruction! But with better grammar, of course! What I mean is that I can handle technical writing to help potential customers better understand the more complex side of your product. This is the perfect area for partnership and collaboration, in my opinion, between the content peeps and the developer peeps within your company. The better clients understand your HR, the more relatable you become.
